Graffiti is integral to the contemporary city. Its roots reach back thousands of years. Today graffiti may mark gang territory, express political viewpoints or, in some cases, derive from deliberate effort at artistic expression. It may be scrawls, a rough kind of calligraphy, or more elaborate representations. This gallery shows urban landscapes where graffiti is present and part of the scene, even if not the subject in and of itself.
