In the shadow, the carvings and figures and flourshes are purged, leaving a simplified, beautifully pared down, but recognizable abstraction of the actual tower on the blank wall of the opposite building. The absence of shadow creates a window representational of the actual tower window, which lines up with the modern rectangle and glass of an actual window in the blank wall of the building the shadow is cast upon. It is a sort of metaphysical, philosophical pairing. To this note, this photo is such a merging of two worlds - of clean, modern minimalist to the left - and corinthian columns, arched windows, dimensional carved figures of saints, and ornate old-world splendor of cross-topped domed tower to the right.
